Equine Assisted Therapy is a therapeutic, mental health service that combines traditional counselling practices carried out by a qualified professional with connection, interaction and the presence of one or more horses. Often taking place in or nearby the paddock, it may entail observation of the horses, interactions, grooming, leading and learning basic horsemanship skills. The client is assisted to be physically and emotionally present, this allows for attunement and mirroring to occur between horse and human.
We will work phenomenologically which means to remain in the here and now, allowing experiences to unfold organically. We often combine more traditional counselling practices with somatic exercises, art therapy, walk and talk and grounding exercises.
